History
Ault Park is one of Cincinnati’s most beautiful parks. It is located in the Mount Lookout neighborhood on the east side of the city. This 224 acre park features hiking trails, picnic areas, a pavilion, and panoramic views of the Little Miami River valley.
The park’s history began when a large parcel of land was donated to the city by Levi Addison Ault in 1911. He had previously donated 30 acres of land that had been part of a vineyard. Throughout the years, the parcel grew and expanded. Eventually, Ault Park became the fourth largest park in the city.
In 1907, a plan was drawn up by landscape architect George Kessler to create a comprehensive park system in the city. The plan proposed a number of ways to enhance the beauty and use of the parks in the city. One of these recommendations was a plan that would encourage the use of hillsides to provide overlooks and vistas.
